2010 Coniglio Hawkes Bay Chardonnay - Gold, London International Wine Challenge 2012

A wine of exceptional style and elegance, hand crafted from the finest Chardonnay fruit grown in our unique Hawke's Bay vineyard at Riverview. Produced only in years when the fruit achieves absolute perfection, hand selection and whole bunch pressing have created a style that is seamless and the pinnacle of the winemaker's art.
Drizzled honey combined with vanilla bean works in unison to provide a complex aroma that is silky and fluent. The initial contact with the palate instantly reflects the reason that the Coniglio is only produced in vintages of exceptional quality. Caramel, butterscotch, toffee and a hint of smoked manuka enriches the palate. The flavours combine elegantly to leave a long, lengthy full flavour, long after the back of the throat has been graced.

2004 Blanc de Blanc Methode Traditionnelle  - Gold, Marlborough Wine Show 2013

This Blanc de Blanc is one of the few sparkling wines in the Morton stable to have been sourced entirely from Marlborough fruit. The fruit was from our Stone Creek Vineyard on Rapaura Rd and has since been grafted over from its original Chardonnay. The wine was made in the traditional style, starting with only free run juice of handpicked grapes being used. Clean fermentation and MLF of the base wine preceded 8 years of bottle maturation on lees of the secondary fermentation.

The wine shows excellent secondary characters of freshly baked bread, croissant and almond which is complement by strong lemon and nectarine fruit characters. The aroma is complex and layered. The palate is beautifully balanced with a long fine profile and delicate effervescence.

Morton Brut Non-Vintage Methode Traditionnelle - Winestate Recommended

Morton Brut is a deliciously refreshing, delicate sparkling wine with a steady bead and well-rounded flavours. The palate is fresh and lively exhibiting classic fruit flavours, complexed by yeast aromas.

Best consumed with oysters and different types of cheeses.

2011 Black Label Hawkes Bay Chardonnay - ****, Michael Cooper

The making of this wine begins with meticulous canopy management and hand picking of our prized Riverview block 2 chardonnay. This Mendoza clone block produces fruit of unparalleled quality, uniqueness of character, and depth of flavour.

Free run juice goes straight to barrel for fermentation in new and used French oak barriques. Following fermentation the wine was matured in barrel for 22 months prior to blending and bottling.

This complex and full bodied wine shows aromas of ripe melon, candied citrus, quince and toffee. The palate has superb depth and length of flavour. Rich mouth-filling fruit is supported by subtle toasty French oak.

2011 Black Label Marlborough Pinot Noir

Fruit of exceptional ripeness and flavour was harvested from our Stone Creek Vineyard producing a wonderful classic Marlborough Pinot Noir.

Fruit aromas of dark cherry, plum, raspberry dominate the aroma, supported and complimented with vanilla, wood smoke and grilled mushrooms. The aroma is deep and captivating. On the palate the pedigree and depth of flavour is immediately evident, with support from a very fine tannin structure.

Overall the wine has a wonderful balance and poise, a silky length and the fruit to see drink now and age well into the future.

2007 Black Label Hawkes Bay "The Regent"

This Regent of Morton is a testament to Morton Estate’s ability and desire to offer super premium red wine that is in peak form. Long term aging under anaerobic conditions at critically controlled temperatures has created a wine that shows aromatic complexity combined with the body and silkiness that can only come with careful cellaring.

The aroma is dense and vibrant with the characters of dark chocolate, ripe blackberries, plums and violets. The palate is smooth, rich and rounded. Silky tannins provide great length and support to a sweet core of forest fruits. The wine shows great body and poise.

The namesake of this wine was another prominent red – James Douglas, Regent of Morton. He served during the reign of Mary – Queen of Scots from 1572 – 78. Devious and uncompromising, fate soon caught up with him and the Regent of Morton was beheaded in 1581 for his part in the murder of Lord Damley.

Our Regent of Morton is of more refined stock. A masterful Bordeaux-style blend that portrays all the traits of a great leader – nobility and softness (Merlot), powerful forward leadership (Cabernet Sauvignon), combined with a strong backbone and guidance (Cabernet Franc).

2007 Black Label Hawkes Bay Merlot Cabernet

Deep red in colour, this stunning wine delivers the aromas of chocolate and mocha that fill the nose with a variety of berries and currants intertwined. The flavours are full of berries, plum and subtle French oak, with the palate supplying fine grained tannins that give great length and structure.

A full bodied wine well suited to winter roasts and stews. Will cellar well under good conditions for the medium to long term.

2006 Late Harvest Semillon

The 2006 Late Harvest Semillon is part of our esteemed Black Label range of wines. Botrytis affected grapes have produced aromas of preserved lemons soaked in honey mead. The palate is assertive, where honey mingles with chunky marmalade flavours – a distinctive character of wine formed from Botrytis affected fruit. It is rich and fresh with a lengthy acid finish – the key to a great dessert wine. This wine will be a fantastic accompaniment to cheeses, desserts and good friends. May be cellared for the medium term in a cool, dark place.

2012 Three Vineyards Hawkes Bay Chardonnay - Winestate Recommended

Produced from our three main Chardonnay vineyards in Hawkes Bay: Tantallon, Riverview and Kinross. These three vineyards are unique in he flavour profile that results from the season, each providing an element to the building of this fine wine.

Barrel fermentation is immediately evident on the aroma of this wine giving flavours of shortbread, marzipan and vanilla. Fruit aromas of citrus marmalade, nectarine and pineapple. The palate shows the nutty texture of barrel ferment combined with fresh vibrant fruit flavours and a touch of oak.

2011 Stone Creek Marlborough Pinot Noir

Ruby red in colour with a fragrant nose of strawberry, cherry and black olive.

The palate shows nice delicate fruit with the strawberry and cherry coming to the fore with the black olive mingling subtly. Soft fine tannins with a hint of toasty oak characters round out the mouth feel.

Light to medium bodied, this wine is best enjoyed with lighter dishes such as Italian or vegetarian meals.

Under screw cap, this may be cellared for approximately five years from the bottling date to develop Pinot Noir's characteristic earthy attributes.

2007 Stone Creek Marlborough Riesling

A long drawn-out ‘Indian’ summer produced fruit of intense flavour and concentration.

The winemaker had the added advantage of being able to choose exactly when the fruit was harvested – at perfect ripeness.

The wine portrays concentrated flinty limes, quince, green apples with mineral undertones.

It is medium weighted, silky textured and the flavours long and layered, showing all the hallmarks of good ageing potential.

A superb match to pan-fried snapper and summer salads.

2013 Stone Creek Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc - Winestate Recommended

Our Stone Creek vineyard is situated on Rapaura Rd, Blenheim in the very heart of the Marlborough district. This vineyard has the typically deep free draining stone and single of the Wairau plain. The low fertility of these soils produce wines of great intensity and often show the mineral qualities of the soils though in the aromas of the wines.

The wine is a great reflection of the vineyard and the vintage. It shows a purity and intensity of fruit flavour with aromas of passionfruit, gooseberry, mineral and grapefruit. The palate is fine, with great length and vibrant fruit flavours that persist well.

2012 White Label Hawkes Bay Chardonnay  -- **** Best Buy, TizWine Awards 2013

The 2012 vintage was one that was not without challenges. A cool season combined with significant rain events made ripening difficult. Despite this the season produced some exceptional Chardonnay. The extended length of ripening time has resulted in wines that are moderate in alcohol and with ripe nectarine and melon fruit flavours combined with great natural acids.

Barrel fermentation of much of the blend gives a texture and silkiness to the palate. A range of barrel ages were used resulting in a wine that shows the complexity of barrel fermentation without overt oakiness.

2013 White Label Hawkes Bay Sauvignon Blanc

The 2013 growing season was one of the driest on record for the Hawkes Bay region. This resulted in lower yields and a rapid onset of flavour and ripeness and an imperative on harvesting while the fruit maintained a good level of natural acidity.

This Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from our two vineyards on opposing banks of the Ngaruroro River. These vineyards are renowned for their deep, free draining river gravels and their cool night temperatures.

The aroma is lifted and fresh with citrus characters of grapefruit and blood orange. There is also a hint of freshly picked lemon thyme. On the palate the wine is extremely elegant with a soft acidity and gentle fruit sweetness. A great match for delicate seafood dishes.

2013 White Label Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc - **** Winestate Recommended

Produced from both Awatere and Wairau valley fruit. Made in a typical unoaked style it shows the classical Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc aromas of passionfruit, gooseberry, and tomato vine. Clean ripe fruit flavours follow on the palate supported by a clean acidity. Coming together, the wine is complex with a lively palate and a range of classic Marlborough flavours.

2013 White Label Pinot Gris - Winestate Recommended

Grown on the banks of the Ngaruroro River, this is a light bodied aromatic wine showing aromas of talc, lavender, pear and slate. The palate is very fine, with beautifully balanced acidity and fruit flavour.

The fruit for this wine was harvested at optimum maturity when full colour and flavour development had been achieved.

Well suited to spicy Asian cuisine with subtle flavours that will not dominate the delicacy of the wine.

2010 White Label Hawkes Bay Viognier

Viognier (Vee-on-yay) is one of the classic white varieties of the Southern Rhone valley in France. Revelling in slightly warmer conditions, it has found its Southern Hemisphere home in Hawke’s Bay on our vineyard in the Bridge Pa triangle area.

Full varietal flavours are only achieved by holding the fruit on the vines for an extended period as the aromatic qualities of this grape are the last elements to appear in the ripening process.

The wine has a vibrant straw gold hue. The nose displays lovely fresh aromas of musk and sweet orange marmalade with just a hint of spiciness. On the palate, the classic varietal flavours of mandarin peel and citrus abound and are augmented by a full-bodied, mouth- filling texture of exceptional length.

Perfect for casual summer drinking or paired to a wide range of cuisine – especially creamy, white meat dishes.

2012 White Label Hawkes Bay Gewurztraminer

Gewurztraminer is highly suited to the warm days and cool nights of our Hawkes Bay vineyards. The intense musk and rose flavours of Gewürztraminer really develop late in the season. The 2012 Gewurztraminer is a credit to our viticulturists who have managed to get the most out of what was a cool and often wet weather season.

Intense aroma of lychee and rose water with hints of musk, orange rind and spice. The palate has a soft acidity and a fresh lychee flavour.

2010 White Label Marlborough Riesling - **** Winestate Recommended

An aromatic wine displaying nuances of flinty limes and mandarins with underlying honey characters. A crisp and lively palate compliments the lingering lemon, green apple, mineral and rosewater flavoured finish. A fine example of what our Stone Creek vineyard can achieve.

Enjoy now, but will also reward 2 – 3 years cellaring. A good accompaniment to fish and summer salads.

2011 White Label Hawkes Bay " The Mercure" - Metro Top 100 for Winter, Metro Magazine 2013

Both Malbec and Merlot are really well suited to the Hawkes Bay wine growing district, with both producing wonderfully ripe fruit flavours, soft tannin and elegant length and structure.

Malbec is renowned for its vibrant red hue, uplifted cherry aromatics and fine acidic length, while Merlot tends to have a more complex aroma of ripe plums and chocolate, a sweet core of fruit flavour and soft rounded tannins.

The two varieties complement each other well, giving a wine that is vibrant in fruit flavour, soft and full on the palate, medium bodied and easily paired with a range of foods.

2013 White Label Hawkes Bay Pinot Noir - Silver, Easter Wine Show 2014

2013 was a magnificent year for Pinot Noir in Hawkes Bay. The dry weather, cool nights and moderate yields allowed us to achieve perfect ripeness. Combine this with great viticulture, selective harvesting and gentle winemaking and this fine wine is the result.

The aroma has hints of potpourri and herb, plum and cherry fruit, slight toffee and rhubarb. A wonderfully complex and beguiling aroma. The palate shows soft gentle tannins, a silky length and sweet cherry/plum fruit. Subtle oak char is evident on the finish.

2013 White Label Marlborough Pinot Noir - Gold, Easter Wine Show 2014

Fruit from both our Marlborough vineyards, Stone Creek (Wairau Valley) and Kuranui (Awatere Valley, was used to make this wine. Stone Creek is on the flats of the Wairau and features shallow river gravels over stony alluvials. Stone Creek is the warmer of the two. The cooler and elevated Kuranui is located in the upper Awatere valley and features lime rich free draining gravels and stones above a clay bedrock.

The wine was fermented in a combination of open fermenter with hand plunging and convention closed tanks. The aim was for a very gentle extraction of tannin, while maximising cooler and primary fruit. After fermentation the wine was matured at our Hawkes Bay winery in used French oak barrels.

The wine has an attractive fruit aromas of cranberry, plum, and dark cherry. Smokey oak and forest floor aromas comtribute to the complexity. The palate is medium bodied with soft silky tannins. Plum and cherry flavours dominate the palate.

2012 White Label Hawkes Bay Merlot

Merlot’s popularity is due to the fact that it is softer, fruitier, and earlier-maturing than cabernet sauvignon, yet displays many of the same aromas and flavours – black cherry, currant, cedar, and green olive – along with mint, tobacco and tea-leaf tones.

The Hawkes Bay region produces exquisite fruit with aromas of plums and blackcurrants filling the nose, with hints of cigar box and vanilla also evident.

Dark plums and blackcurrants again dominate the palate, inter-mingled with dark chocolate and some subtle cedar characters. The experience is extended with a long vanillin-oak, soft-tannin finish. Superb with bold, rich, red meat dishes.

2012 Mill Road Chardonnay

This wine has a fresh and delicate aroma of nectarine, stone fruit and apple blossom. The palate shows great balance, vibrant nectarine fruit flavours and a long minerally finish.

2012 Mill Road Merlot Cabernet

The complimentary blending of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon is a long accepted winemaking style. The Merlot provides sweet fruit flavours and plumpness on the palate, while the Cabernet Sauvignon is a little more taut and structural on the palate and often more herbal on the aroma.

This wine shows aromas of bright cherry, blueberry, rhubarb and hints of sage. The palate is medium bodied with soft tannins and sweet fruit.

2013 Mill Road Pinot Noir

This Hawkes Bay Pinot Noir has a light red colour. Aromas of cherry liquor, plum, roasted nuts and French oak. The palate shows a fine depth of flavour, good length and a silky balance.

2012 White Label Private Reserve Hawkes Bay Chardonnay - Winestate Recommended

Our Private Reserve wines are produced from parcels of fruit from our own vineyards that show an individuality and uniqueness of character.

With this wine the palate exhibits classic stone fruit flavours fused with toast nutty oaks combined with honey and vanilla. Well structured with a long satisfying finish, it is a wine for a serious chardonnay drinker.

2009 Private Reserve Hawkes Bay Viognier - Silver, Spiegelau International Wine Competition 2011

Viognier (Vee-on-yay) is one of the classic white varieties of the Southern Rhone valley in France. Revelling in slightly warmer conditions, it has found its Southern Hemisphere home in Hawke’s Bay on our vineyard in the Bridge Pa triangle area.

Full flavours are only achieved by holding the fruit on the vines for an extended period, as the aromatic qualities of this variety are the last elements to appear in the ripening process. The 2009 vintage provided exceptional ripening conditions with perfectly clean, ripe fruit.

Aromatic with orange blossom and mandarin characters, it’s a medium bodied wine with intense flavours and an excellent example of this variety. With aromas of ripe apricots and orange blossoms, it is dry in style, sharing some Chardonnay traits such as distinctive fruit flavours and a creamy mouth feel.

A good accompaniment to richer, creamy dishes. May be cellared for 5 years + for increased complexity.
